THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM
The middle school program for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders provides a gradual transition from the self-contained elementary classroom structure to the independent course, departmentalized structure of the high school. All middle school students take English, math, social studies, science, health and physical education, and electives.

The curriculum features academic programs for students of all levels of ability. Interdisciplinary approaches, team teaching, flexible time blocking, and special programs from remediation to gifted classes are unique features in the middle school organization.
Each student is assigned a counselor who works with students, teachers, and parents during the middle school years to provide personal, social, academic and career planning programs and services to ensure maximum success for each student.
Sixth graders have academic teachers on their team who teach the four core subjects (English, math, science, and social studies). One of these teachers is also the student’s homebase advisor. Sixth graders take a different elective each nine week period, except for certain identified students who will take band or chorus as a year-long course. Seventh and eighth graders are taught the core subjects by a team of four teachers, one of whom is also their homebase teacher. Students take two electives, one each semester, in the seventh grade, and one year-long elective in the eighth grade.
