Three School Counselors recognized by the Virginia Department of Education’s office of behavioral health and wellness

Three Hampton City Schools (HCS) professional school counselors are recognized for the important and meaningful work that they do in making a difference in the lives of the students and families they serve. Yolanda Vaughan, school counselor at Smith Elementary School, Derek Savage, school counselor at Lindsay Middle School, and Cathy Williams, school counselor at Phoebus High School, received the Highest of High Fives recognition from the office of behavioral health and wellness. The office recognizes one counselor from each level in each region and all of the Region 2 recognitions are from Hampton City Schools.

“Being recognized by the department of education is a prestigious honor that speaks volumes about the exceptional quality of our counselors in Hampton City Schools. It signifies that their dedication, expertise, and impact extend beyond our local community and are acknowledged at a broader level. This recognition not only validates the hard work and commitment of our counselors but also highlights their effectiveness in supporting students' academic achievement, personal development, and overall well-being. It serves as a testament to their professionalism, innovation, and leadership in the field of education, reaffirming our confidence in their ability to positively impact the lives of students and contribute significantly to our school community,” says Carla Mahn, HCS director of student development and counseling.

Region 2 Tidewater consists of Accomack, Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Isle of Wight, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Southhampton, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg/James City County, and York County.

Congratulations to these counselors on their well-deserved recognition!
